Kang Sae-Ra is a major and prominent character introduced in New Waves. She is the head of the Mil-Yang Clan.

Appearance[]

Sae-Ra is a young, slender girl with ears that stick out of her long, black, straight hair. She is often wearing formal attire. Other clothing she had worn would be general clothing, whether it'd be a long or short-sleeved shirt with shorts or skirts. In her initial introduction with her meeting with Shi-Woon, the latter had remarked his first impressions of her to be "a very beautiful, kind-looking young lady."

She is a very forward girl and with her expression-less face, it is hard to determine what her true intentions are. Sometimes, she may be seen wearing glasses, generally and probably for reading intentions, as seen when doing paperwork or helping teach Shi-Woon.

Personality[]

Sae-Ra is a fairly reserved person, never showing her emotions to anyone. That being said she never boasts of her own strength or position to anyone. She is cool, calm, and collected - not once has she lost her temper or her composure throughout the series, even in the most troubled situations. In several moments of the series, she does not even care if stressed individuals insult her, those consisting of Won-Jae, Kang Ha-Il, and Kwon Ji-Nie. She is rational and cunning, often times devising plans or back-up plans to achieve her goals.

She very rarely smiles and the first time was after hearing Shi-Woon's response to her question about whether he would save her if she would be in trouble like Jin-Ie was at a previous time. She is only every seen smiling when talking with or thinking about Shi-Woon.

Contrary to her normally emotionless personality she has shown strong feelings of attraction towards Shi-Woon throughout the series. Although she previously held a grudge against him it is obvious that she has developed feelings for him over time. This is due to Shi-Woon's persistent, caring nature, where later on, she comments that no one has ever been there for her like Shi-Woon is. She even brought herself to risk her life in saving Shi-Woon, and later apologizing for her actions. Whether her actions of kissing Shi-Woon "in order to save him as quickly as possible" is questionable.

In Eternal Force she is shown to completely clear her schedule for the day to meet with Shi-Woon even when it hurts her business. Her attraction to Shi-Woon is obvious to everyone including her closest colleagues. When talking to Yang Gil-Nam he notes his surprise that someone would spend so much time helping Shi-Woon for nothing in return. Implying that Shi-Woon is what Sera cares most about in her life. In a later meeting she she smiles when she gets a call from Shi-Woon and her subordinates note it's the first time they've ever seen her show emotion.

However being a part of the Murim her entire life Sera's view of people other than Shi-Woon and the idea of helping them is foreign to her. Initially when they run into Kang Ha-Jae who is dying in a back alley, while she still calls an ambulance, she tells Shi-Woon that he has no reason to help someone outside the Murim and shouldn't get involved with outsiders. Even Joo Sang-Shik who is also at the scene, helps Ha-Jae immediately.

Techniques & Abilities[]

Techniques[]

  • Outer Body Training Method: Sae-Ra is currently unable to use this technique, as she needs three more year of training in order to use it.

Abilities[]

  • Genius intellect: Sae-Ra's real abilities however lies in her prodigious intellect. She has remarkable talent in analyzing situations and manipulating them to benefit her and that of her clan.
  • Master Martial Artist (Artists Society Style): Sae-Ra excels in the throwing style of the Artist Society. She can considered to be at the master level and can dodge, evade and use her style of throws to counter her opponents attacks seamlessly. She is able to counter and do so even against Kwon Ji-Nie, an elite fighter in the Sun-Woo Clan.

Relationships[]

Friends and Allies[]

In general, she actually does not have much friends at all. This may would later help Shi-Woon's training as well.

  • Yoo Ji-Gun: The two seemed to have met prior their introductions, with her agreeing to join his Shinhyup Clan and agreeing to help her kill Shi-Woon before the matter shifted otherwise.
  • Kwon Ji-Nie‏‎: Although no longer enemies, Jin-Ie is still easily annoyed by Sae-Ra's seemingly cold attitude and condolences for death of Ji-Nie's grandfather.
  • Kang Ha-Il: Sae-Ra works well with Ha-Il had factored his help plans more then once. Aside from Shi-Woon, Sae-Ra appears to get along the best with Ha-Il.
  • Lee Shi-Woon: At first the two of them mortal enemies, as the master of the latter killed her grandfather in the past, Eventually, though meeting his resolve in "Never Giving Up," she would befriend him, also making her entire clan defend him as well. she would then have much more interactions with him once he accepts to be tutored under her knowledge. Soon enough, her feeling begin to grow upon his ideals of friendship, in which had begun to sprout when she asked him if he would save her if she was in trouble (he answers that he would put all effort in rescuing her). Upon hearing that, she smiled like had not done in years. Later on, she would try to create a rescue-plan to ultimately save Shi-Woon when he was in trouble. And upon meeting him, she kisses him in order to get him to swallow the pill to regain consciousness. She risks her life on the line to save him, never screaming for the pain, Even though she got multiple wounds, because she wanted Shi-Woon to escape without worrying about her. When Ha-Il came by and asked her if she liked Shi-Woon she confirmed it by saying that he is attractive.
  • Yae-Won: It has been stated that she is Sae-Ra's teacher, who would later help Shi-Woon's training as well.
